Installation and setup of Joli-OS 1.2.1

Running this on my Mac Mini, MacOSX 10.8.2

Download ISO image from http://www.jolicloud.com/jolios

Once the ISO image is downloaded. Then lets setup the virtual. Since Joli-OS is based on Ubuntu 32-bit , so we will base the configuration on that.

Startup VMware Fusion and create a new Virtual Machine.

  1. Click on Continue without disc.
  2. Now Choose a disc or disc image. Click on Continue.
  3. I changed the default Operating System, Linux, Ubuntu 64-bit, to Ubuntu, then Click on Continue.
  4. Now you can change the configuration if you want, default is 1G RAM, 20G hard drive, NAT network device etc. You can change to your preference and then Click Finish to finish your installation.

They suggest a minimum of 384MB RAM and a minimum of 4G hard drive.

Create your account etc. Once that is done we will install the VMware tools. We will use the Open VMware tools that come with the distribution.

At the bottom of the page there is a couple of dots. This will let you change to another page. Click on the right dot and you should now see a new page. Click on Local Apps and now click on Terminal.

Open Terminal and type sudo synaptic and hit enter, type in password you setup before.

Now that synaptic is running, Click on Search and type in vmware. Put a check mark on the box before open-vm-tools and and accept everything it wants to install. Then click Apply to install. Click Apply again and everything should be installed. I would reboot at this point.

You should now be able to adjust the monitor resolution to your preference.

Interesting OS, very cloud based. Runs well.
